Cairo comprises the governorates of Cairo, Giza, and Qalyubia, commonly referred to as Greater Cairo. It experiences a hot desert climate with scorching summers, where the average temperature can soar to 34.2°C, and drop to 20.8°C at its coolest. Winters are milder with temperatures peaking at 19.9°C and bottoming out at 9.7°C. Cairo is one of the oldest cities in the world and has been relatively undamaged by war throughout its history, making it a unique survivor of ancient urban centers.

The city has grown and evolved over successive dynasties and governments, resulting in a blend of ancient and modern architecture that stands side by side, shining brightly throughout the ages. Cairo is located at the southern tip of the Nile Delta, with most of the area falling under the category of subtropical desert climate.

In Cairo, mosques and minarets are a common sight, reflecting the city's Islamic heritage. The minaret, known as a "minaar" in Arabic, is the tower from which the muezzin calls people to prayer. Since the 7th century, as Islam spread widely across the Middle East and North Africa, mosque architecture has developed greatly, with the minaret becoming an indispensable and diverse feature of mosque design, adding to the appeal of Cairo's urban landscape.

In November 2019, Egypt Air launched a direct route from Hangzhou to Cairo, further connecting the cities on a global scale. By December 26th of the same year, Cairo was ranked 97th in the Global City 500 list, recognizing its importance in the international community.
